Overview of cotton production
The characteristics of cotton production and development worldwide: rapid growth in 50s and slow growth in 60s. China, America, India, Pakistan and Uzbekistan are the five countries with the cotton production of more than 1 million tons since 80s. China ranks first in raw cotton consumption and America ranks first in raw cotton export in the world. In recent years, the total output of the international cotton is relative stable which is about 20 million tons. The total output of cotton in the word is 19.18 million tons from 2002 to 2003 with the year-on-year decrease of 11% which is about 2.31 million tons less than the last year.
